Captain Cameron A. Clough IN 17-1942 was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for actions on 28-29 August 1944 near the Brest Airfield and at Harmao, France while serving as a commanding officer of an infantry company of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division. For two days, Captain Clough led his company in the assault on the enemy airfield at Brest. He was struck by a shrapnel charge in the head, however, despite the loss of an eye and other severe injuries, he fought on until ordered by a superior officer to be evacuated for surgical care.
